Greta & Marius’s Sicilian Wedding at Tonnara di Scopello

It began on Greta’s birthday, at a small gathering with friends in Oslo. Marius had already noticed her before, but for Greta it was the first time she saw him. His opening words were bold: “We won’t be friends.” That night marked the beginning of something extraordinary. One date led to another, and soon Greta found herself falling for the man who would one day hang a banner across a bridge reading “I love you more than anything in this world.”

Over the next nine years, they grew side by side, choosing one another each day. “Marius still looks at me the same way he did back then,” Greta says. “And I still melt when I catch it.”

The Proposal

Four years to the day after asking her to be his girlfriend, Marius planned the most unforgettable surprise. He sent Greta only coordinates and told her to meet him there. The destination was the Grand Hotel in Oslo, one of the city’s most historic addresses. In a suite that felt timeless and full of old-world romance, the evening unfolded with a performance of Romeo and Juliet, dinner, and then a quiet return to their suite. With one of their favourite songs playing, Marius dropped to one knee and asked Greta to be his wife. “It was one of those rare days where everything aligned,” she remembers.

A Sicilian Dream

When the couple discovered Tonnara di Scopello, an ancient tuna fishery perched on Sicily’s dramatic coastline, they knew instantly it was the place. “It felt timeless, like stepping into a dream,” Greta shares. Its raw stone, turquoise sea, and historic stillness became the backdrop for their June celebration, with family and friends staying on site to create an atmosphere of intimacy and togetherness. Days before and after the wedding were spent swimming, feasting, and laughing by the water, a true retreat of love and life.

The Vision

Greta and Marius wanted their day to celebrate not just their love, but life itself. “We wanted our guests to pause, to enjoy, and to create memories filled with laughter, romance, and joy,” Greta says.

Their aesthetic was one of softness and elegance, inspired by Sicily’s natural beauty. The ancient architecture and sea breeze were complemented with white hydrangeas, orchids, and roses, complemented by tall silver candleholders glowing under string lights. Greta herself designed many elements, from satin ribbon place cards to the grand bow seating chart. Even the bar and DJ booth were draped in custom cloths that echoed the details, tying the vision together into something timeless.

Personal Touches

The day was filled with meaningful traditions. Greta exchanged heirloom jewellery with her mother that morning, gifting her a locket engraved “Myliu tave, Mama” while receiving a diamond pendant to pass down through generations. Their wedding rings carried equal significance: a Cartier 1895 for her, a bold yellow gold band for him, chosen together in Milan.

They also embraced Lithuanian customs: a blessing of bread, salt, and water as they entered dinner, and the passing of the family hearth candle from their mothers, symbolising warmth and the beginning of a new home.

Fashion Notes

Greta wore a handcrafted gown by Luna Bea Bride, made of flowing ivory silk with long sleeves and an open back, minimalist yet full of quiet drama. “It felt like wearing something truly meaningful,” she says. She paired it with a three-and-a-half metre mantilla veil by MW Bridal and moonstone and pearl earrings by Christie Nicolaides. Loeffler Randall block heels ensured grace on Sicily’s cobblestones.

Marius wore a tailored ivory double-breasted suit by Suit Supply, paired with a classic watch, gold chain, and black-and-white loafers. For the reception, he changed into a custom double-breasted brown suit by Tavo Kostiumas with loafers from Myrqvist, a relaxed yet elegant look for the evening.

The Ceremony

Their ceremony, led by officiant Loredana Crisafi, told the story of their love rather than repeating vows already shared privately. Marius’s wish was that the first moment he saw Greta that day would be as her father walked her down the aisle. “That memory will stay with me forever,” she says. “It was so pure, so full of love and anticipation.”

The Feast

Food was a central experience. “We wanted our guests to taste Sicily,” Greta explains. Live cooking stations offered tuna tartare, charcoal octopus, and raw red prawns. Tables overflowed with Sicilian cheeses, arancini, cured meats, seasonal vegetables, and handmade desserts. For all the abundance, Greta only remembers tasting pistachio gelato. “I was too full of joy and euphoria,” she laughs

Moments to Remember

Among heartfelt speeches and celebrations, a friend surprised the couple with a clock, stopped at the exact moment they said “I do.” It bore their golden monogram, designed for their invitations, a deeply personal keepsake.

Reflections

“My favourite moment was Marius’s reaction when I walked down the aisle,” Greta recalls. “The emotion in his eyes crystallised everything we had built.”

The couple’s advice to others: plan together, trust your instincts, and enjoy the process.

“It is your celebration,” Greta says. “The details matter, but what lasts is the love, the joy, and the people around you.”
