“I loved the idea of combining my ready-to-wear with bridal for the Celebration collection—injecting color and fun into the show,” says Acra.
Reem Acra Fall 2019 Bridal ‘Celebration Collection’
High Fashion. Floral appliques as far as the eye can see. MAJOR veil and headpiece drama. The Celebration Collection follows in Reem Acra’s signature style of taking traditional bridal elements and silhouettes and making them thoroughly modern. The Reem Acra Celebration Collection evoked a cinematic wedding party set in a glamorous fantasy world created by event planner Preston Bailey. “The idea of creating the world’s most over-the-top, glamorous bridal dinner party was an idea I have wanted to do for years. The designer brought the drama with her signature flourish of detail and a truly grand collection of dresses, almost each one paired with a veil more regal and breathtaking than the next. There were full, silk ballgowns and Victorian, long sleeve sheaths. The collection has a very distinct lightness to it- ball gowns are graceful with curved and sculpted necklines, and soft a-line shapes feature re-embroidered lace and illusion mesh. The dresses are truly regal looking, making for an extremely memorable and glamorous collection. The accessories are equally glamorous- long flowing veils, lace full-length capes and an embroidered overskirt completed some of the key looks. Fabrics of note are silk Mikado, silk organza, chiffon and brocade.
“In 2019, brides will continue to adopt a less-is-more take on wedding gowns, forsaking more traditional cupcake-style designs for languid silhouettes, shorter hemlines and unexpected tailoring.”
True to brand, Reem Acra’s bridal gowns were primarily tulle and lace covered in floral applique. The silhouettes pushed traditional and some exuded modern cuts and more dramatic skirts while other standouts exuded royal classics—like the pink-hued ball gown that closed the show. Each dress was slightly hidden behind full-length veils decorated whimsically with flowers reminding us of A Midsummer’s Night Dream. To close the show, models posed around a 32-foot long tableau adorned in elaborate floral sculptures enhancing the dramatic beauty of the Celebration collection.
