Inside a Moody Sydney Wedding

& Mike

Olivia Dalton married Mike Dalton in a moody wedding set in Sydney.

Tell us.. how did you meet and what was the proposal like?’

Mike and I have known each other for over 15 years. We were family friends  growing up and attended the same high school. We started dating in summer 09 and spent 8 years together before Mike popped the question.

It was early Dec, we were meant to be heading down the south coast with friends. Bags packed and on our way, we missed the turn off and (to my surprise) ended up at the airport. Mike had secretly called my my work got the Monday off for me and we spent three magical days at the One and Only Hayman Island in the Whitsundays. We had a champagne picnic on Whitehaven beach, swam with turtles, took a helicopter ride over the Great Barrier Reef and just when I thought the weekend couldn’t get any better, we went on a sunset walk to a private beach. Mike pulled out an old book full of short stories and memories he had secretly written after dates over the years. After a lot of tears, Mike hoped onto one knee and asked would I marry him and get really really old together.

What advice would you give to other couples leading up to their big day?

There are so many options and so many opinions… create the celebration and day that truly reflects you both as a couple – find your vibe and stick with it! Also, enjoy every minute of the day, there is nothing quite like being surrounded by your nearest and dearest – the love is so overwhelming.

You’re engaged! Now what? How did you go about planning the big day? Budget? First steps to take…

Finding a venue that was unique and represented us, was the most difficult and longest part of the planning process for us! We nearly put down a deposit on a location in Byron Bay and in Kangaroo Valley, but something didn’t feel right. Once the location was locked in and the scene was set, everything else seemed to kick off. Excel quickly became our new best friend!

Where possible, we tried to work with people we already knew (and who knew us and our vibe). It made the planning process so much smoother and a lot more fun.

What was your beauty and fitness prep leading up to the wedding?

I didn’t really alter my fitness routine in the lead up to the wedding. Three months out, I began seeing the lovely Marissa from Glenrose Beauty Gallery. She really looked after my skin and with a bunch of treatments (LED light therapy, peels etc), she made sure I was glowing on the day.
