“…and struggle to fight dehydration, so I start my morning with a tall glass of water before my skincare routine. After using a cleansing oil, I choose my moisturizer depending on where I am in the world – in hot places I go for a light-textured cream, and in colder temperatures I’ll use something thicker, but they’ll always have a high SPF, no matter which country I’m in. I love SK-II and Avene products.”

Do you have any advice for women who are in a dilemma about what hair style to go for on their wedding day?

Try not to listen to everyone’s advice as every friend or family member will have a different opinion and can easily confuse you further. It’s not about making everyone happy, you’re the important one; it’s your hair and your day. If you’re unsure of what hairstyle to go for then always turn to a professional for advice. Save a few images of hair you like the look of and book a consultation and trial with your wedding hair stylist.  With their expertise and guidance you’ll be able to come up with something together. It will be a style that will suit your hair, your personality and your dress and I’m sure once it’s unveiled on the big day everyone will love it. Remember that sometimes more than one trial can be necessary so be prepared and leave enough time before the wedding to allow for this. A rushed bride is a stressed bride and you want to remain as relaxed as possible throughout all the preparations, making it an enjoyable experience.

Can you give some examples of celebrity wedding hair styles that you’ve loved?

Aaron Paul’s 1920’s themed Malibu wedding to Lauren Parsekian is a good example of long hair styled in loose tousled waves. I thought Lauren looked stunning in her billowing white gown and her hair worn down was a great choice that suited her perfectly. Personally I would have wanted to create a more natural looking and lived-in blonde for her but I still think she looked gorgeous.

Kate Upton and Justin Verlander’s Tuscany wedding is a good example of shoulder length hair that looked simple yet glamorous in Hollywood inspired waves. This hairstyle is more classic and structured with one side pinned back which is where you could place a beautiful hair accessory or delicate fresh flowers. I love how the beauty was more classic and simple for the ceremony and then went bolder for the reception. Her hair was initially worn down, the make up was natural and the dress had delicate lace details. Later Kate’s hairstylist created a special twist on a classic updo and her make up artist accentuated her features without it being overdone. This looked amazing with her second dress which had a plunging back and was the total opposite to her ceremony gown. Kate’s hair stylist and make up artist were guests at her wedding, so having these professionals with her all day allowed them to create a stunning second look and were also  available for any touchups needed throughout the day. If you haven’t booked a hairstylist for the entire day, be sure to have a few hair products nearby for touchups. Throw a pocket-size hairspray, bobby pins, and a fine-tooth comb into a pouch for your maid of honour, bridesmaid, or sister to have on hand.

(My hair is on the right. I have been going to Anthony for 12 years now and have followed him everywhere!)

What’s trending for 2019 brides with hair looks, right now?

Recently I’ve noticed a huge trend for brides to wear their hair down. Hair looks healthy, full, shiny, often worn with waves which add body and movement. A bride will nearly always require extensions to create fullness throughout the style. They also give the styling longevity, acting as a strong support to the hairstyle which minimises any chance of the styling simply dropping out. Brides want their hair colour to compliment their skin tone, they want their colour to look natural and quite often sun kissed. We are seeing a lot of brides embracing warmth and going for more golden tones which photograph beautifully. If hair is worn up it is loose and effortless, very few brides want a tight and severe updo as soft movement is often more flattering.

What hair trend would you like to see die in 2019?

Scrunchies! Like, seriously? I can’t believe these are trending right now, they so need to be left back in the 80’s/90’s!

Whats hair product can’t you live without?

I absolutely adore ILES FORMULA Haute Performance Finishing SerumIt protects all hair types from environmental assaults with hand-picked, custom blended ingredients including vitamins, nut oils, silk, and ceramide which feed hair with nothing but goodness without ever weighing it down. This paraben free formula creates a screen against UV rays, humidity and free radicals: strengthening hair, helping repair split ends and preventing colour fade.

How does a bride get her hair into tip top condition before her wedding day?

It’s so important to get your hair in the best possible condition for your wedding day. Like most things, to get good results consistency is key so building a good relationship with your stylist/colourist who understands your hair journey and goals is vital. This will most probably involve regular haircuts and in-salon treatments as well as a professionally prescribed home care regimen. You may need to limit using heat tools at home and be prepared to invest more time and money into your hair on the lead up to your wedding than you normally would. Always go to a colourist that has the condition of your hair as their number one priority, the last thing you want is a chemical damage catastrophe just before your big day.

What should a bride NOT do to her hair before the big day?

Never go for a huge change. Your wedding day is not the time to experiment with a length, style, or texture you’ve never worn before. The aim is to look like the best version of yourself.

What do appointments look like leading up to the big day and when is the ultimate time to get colour done before the wedding?

If possible I like to start talking to a bride a year in advance of her wedding so we can book all her appointments and services. Ideally the wedding colour should be done about 10 days prior to the big day which allows time for any potential adjustments and also for extensions to be matched to the colour and purchased or applied before the wedding. Even if you have no colour in your hair, the week before your wedding I recommend a clear gloss. It will take about 25 minutes and will give your hair a glassy shine that will look gorgeous in photos.

Hair extensions, can you recommend where a bride could go to thicken up or lengthen her locks?

The type of extensions recommended will depend on your natural hair texture, your lifestyle and which will work best with your chosen wedding hairstyle. Ask your stylist to go through the options and they will find what works for you as an individual. Regardless of how thick or long your hair is naturally, I still recommend you should consider wearing extensions on your wedding day. Extensions really hold the style and gives your stylist something to pin into if you’re using hair accessories. Extensions will also make any hairstyle or updo look fuller and require less teasing, saving your hair from all those knots and damage! Whichever extensions you and your stylist decide to use, it’s important to get the colour matched perfectly. ALWAYS have your hair coloured first and then match the extensions to your hair rather than the other way around. Hair extensions are often extensively previously coloured and the condition is sensitised. This unknown history means any chemical services performed on them come with many risks. You’ll find most colourists refuse to perform colour services on extensions as the results are so unpredictable. I also always recommend extensions be cut to allow your stylist to blend them into your style seamlessly. Extensions should be undetectable so do your research and always listen to the advice of a professional.
