There are dream jobs and then there are dream jobs like Cassandra Lusi’s.
Cassandra Lusi has been a full-time makeup artist for almost 3 years, and let me tell you, the girl can paint a face. She is a regular makeup artist to Steph Claire Smith, Laura Henshaw and not to mention Olivia Molly Rodgers, Eleanor Pendleton & Rachel Finch.
How do wedding makeup trials work?
A bridal trial should be used for the makeup artist to get to know the bride, the vibe and feel of the wedding, and what the ascetic of the whole day will be. And for the bride to get to know the makeup artist, their style and to discuss the expectations of the bridal makeup. We get to test how foundations/ primers and moisturisers all sit and wear on the skin so on the day there are no surprises. It’s also a great time we can discuss any pre wedding skin treatments that might be good in the lead up to the big day.
If a bride chooses to do her own makeup or needs tips for the wedding rehearsal dinner or recovery lunch what are your top tips for..
To achieve the best base it all starts with good skin, so skin preparation is so important. Never try anything new too close to any big events, and keep it simple. A good cleanse and hydrating serum the night before should tick all the boxes if you are new to a skincare regime. Also an eye masks before a makeup application for puffy tired eyes never goes astray.
Foundation? What’s the best and how does she go about getting a flawless base?
For longevity and flawless complexion for a dewy base I can’t go past Nars sheer glow foundation. But my biggest tip is use a damp beauty blender! Right now I am obsessed with YSL All in One Glow Foundation– it’s oil free and light weight but coverage is light to medium buildable (personal makeup kit staple).
What are your must have tools/ products?
Number one – damp beauty blender always helps achieve the perfect base. (Not for matte foundations) also a primer that works for your skin – my go to is Charlotte Tilbury wonder glow.
How does she go about contouring?
Less is more, and make sure you use a matte bronzer and use a small/ medium size bronzing brush to get a defined contour line. I like creams but for longevity and looking more fresh not as cakey I always opt for a powder.
Glow- how does one get a glow without looking like you’ve walked into a strobe light?
Use a natural glow (try a light cream base highlighter – I love RMS living luminizer because it’s coconut oil based) on the high points of your cheek bones, and a tiny amount on your brow bone and Cupid bow. Set with a soft highlighter (Tom Ford sculpting highlight is my go-to)
Which makeup mistake do you see perpetrated most often?
Going too hard on the brows and using strip lashes. Last thing you want is looking too dark around the eye area in photos. Less is more!!!
@narsissist sheer glow & creamy concealer
@ctilburymakeup flawless filter #5
@toofaced peaches palette
@hourglasscosmetics bronzed luminous light
@tomfordbeauty fiber gel
@eylureofficial Lashes * lip applied after photo but was @narsissist Dolce Vita with @maccosmeticsaustralia Boldly Bare ‘ – Cassandra Lusi
Keeping it fresh is a trend I don’t see going anywhere anytime soon.
What else makes a winning bridal look?
Simple elegance and keeping the bride looking like herself. There is nothing more beautiful than a glowing bride looking the best version of her.
What’s the one product that you have repurchased the most over the years?
There is a list of about 5 but two I can’t seem to replace with another brand are Tom Ford fibre brow gel and Nars creamy concealer!
Products that Cass swears by
